bitcontrol® Audio/Video Decoder

bitcontrol® Audio/Video Decoder is a part of bitcontrol® Multimedia Suite. It is a multifunctional multiformat decoder for different multimedia formats, e.g. MPEG-2, H.263, MPEG-4, H.264/AVC, and others (see specification).

The decoder provides a decoded image sequence in a defined chroma format for displaying on the screen. Also, the output signal can be transcoded or otherwise processed.


bitcontrol® Audio Video Decoder is used as a component in programs such as bitcontrol® Simple Player, in bitcontrol® Video Streaming Server, in the Recorder plug-in and in other Windows Media® applications for the decoding of compressed video and audio.  The decoder supports DVB-TV, media files, WebCams, video streaming and other input types, depending on the connected front end demultiplexer. The decoder is optimally tuned for interacting with bitcontrol® Digital TV Link.


bitcontrol® Audio/Video Decoder is a loadable COM object under Windows, not a stand-alone program.  Usually, a multimedia application loads bitcontrol® Audio/Video Decoder automatically, so the user does not need to take care of anything.

bitcontrol® Audio/Video Decoder operates as a software decoder for different codecs in accordance with its specification, in addition it supports DirectX® Video Acceleration - DXVA. High definition TV HDTV with 1080i definition can be played with DXVA on Celeron <1GHz and with common atom processors.

bitcontrol® Audio/Video Decoder is delivered with a separate configuration menu, making it easy and convienent to set the supported codecs and their parameters.

Furthermore, bitcontrol® Audio/Video Decoder has a plug-in architecture and the loadable plug-ins provide additional functionalities, e.g. statistic information, a systray icon for configuration during run time and others. You can find the detailed information in the documentation.

bitcontrol® Audio/Video Decoder is very robust against errors, e.g. input stream drop outs,  bit errors and other signal errors. This means the decoder is very good for DVB-T, DVB-S and Internet streaming applications.

bitcontrol® Audio/Video Decoder stands out becasue of its extraordinary color brilliance. It is based on 4:2:2 color upsampling and on exact color spreading during decoding for MPEG-2.

bitcontrol® Audio/Video Decoder can decode the MPEG video bitstream of the most important profiles and all levels of different Chroma formats in real-time, e.g. the common MPEG-2 Main Profile@Main Level. The decoder is compatible with common video standards.

Limitation: Soft decoding variant for H.264/AVC without DXVA 2.0 is not yet realtime-capable in bcAVDec Version 4.0 for HDTV.

bitcontrol® Audio/Video Decoder supports audio formats LPCM (partial) and MPEG-1 Layer 1/2. AAC is in prep.

bitcontrol® Audio/Video Decoder is licensed within the bitcontrol® Multimedia Suite.

For commercial use,  bitcontrol® Audio/Video Decoder  based on bitcontrol® Multimedia Suite can be licensed as an extension in any quantity and also independently within the scope of OEM contracts. Please ask for the delivery conditions.

Today, MPEG-2 and H.264/AVC formats are the most widely employed standards in consumer video products and in commercial applications. They are used in DVD productions, in TV productions, in digital TV transmission and in high quality online video monitoring. Several companies participated in the development of MPEG-2/4 and H.264/AVC standards. Today, the MPEG LA Consortium - - represents the interests of all shareholders with more then a hundred patents. Royalties should be paid to MPEG LA for legal use of MPEG-2/4 and H.264/AVC technologies of  bitcontrol® Audio/Video Decoder in consumer products.
